KDDI’s participation in the 37th JAMECA-MAJECA Joint Conference Programme

July 24, 2019

KDDI Malaysia on July 1 participated in the 37th JAMECA-MAJECA Joint Conference Programme held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where we introduced new smart factory solutions that fuse the technologies of IoT (Internet of Things)and RPA (Robotic Process Automation).

In recent years at Malaysian factories, effort is being focused to improve production and operational rates with an aim of improved industry in Southeast Asia. State-of-the-art technologies like IoT and RPA are being looked to as means to achieve these goals, with expectations for cooperation with companies knowledgeable in these areas and accelerated factory automation.

For this forum, companies highly experienced in state-of-the-art factory automation implementation were invited, with the goal of deepening economic cooperation between Japan and Malaysia through new technological fields such as IoT and RPA.

In a lecture at the forum, KDDI Malaysia President Naoki Wakabayashi explained the need for progressing the digital transformation using factories with IoT. Additionally, he proposed that as measures to deal with increased office work within factories and higher personnel costs, routine work be automated with RPA and employees be shifted to more profitable, value-producing work.

Furthermore, at the KDDI Malaysia booth, in addition to the digital transformation at factories, demonstrations were provided of remote work support using smart glasses, a translation device incorporating IoT and AI, and RPA. Through these experiences, booth visitors could better visualize how these technologies could be implemented to their businesses. Some comments from the many interested visitors included “I thought that IoT would be difficult, but we could implement this at my company” and “I want to immediately start evaluating RPA implementations because they look like they bring results quickly.”

Additionally, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad visited the KDDI Malaysia booth, where he viewed our IoT solution and RPA demonstrations.

In addition to this event, KDDI will continue to release information of use to our customers. Please look forward to more news on our future activities.
